Music is a part of Raja's cultural heritage, his family descends from the Royal singers of the Jodhpur State thus singing comes naturally to Raja and now he has brought this mighty legacy to the international arena. Raja attributes his musical success to his gurus - his father Rafiq Sagar and his grandfather Allah Rakha Khan, who gave him ample guidance throughout his young life. With their continual love, guidance, support and blessings, Raja perfected the art of classical singing, over a period of eighteen years.
Upon realising that music, was the path that God had chosen for him, Raja began to pursue his musical career on a more professional level. He started touring with a musical band in a series of concerts across the country and as fate would have it, whilst he was on tour in Ahmadabad, he met and fell in love with a lady named Ayesha, (who herself was a singer in another band.) Over time, they became well acquainted and began touring together. Raja decided that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her and for the sake of true love, he eloped to Mumbai and got married, promising his mother that he would only return when he became an international superstar. Upon reaching Mumbai however, Raja's uphill struggle had just begun. He had started a family at a young age, and now they had a young child Saniya, to support. Raja realised, that it was going to be a tough battle to get noticed as a Singer and, although he found it hard to make ends meet, he never lost sight of his personal goals and ambitions. Eventually he made the decision, that he would try his luck by entering the international singing contest 'Saregamapa 2007.' This would prove to be a major turning point in his young life.
Raja's entrance and subsequent struggle throughout Saregamapa 2007, marked a lengthy battle to his personal and professional success. When Raja showcased his talent on Saregamapa 2007, I personally felt like an 'anmol heera' (priceless gem) had been born. Many times, Raja moved me so deeply, not just with his voice, but, with his whole persona and character and when he sang, he just BLEW ME AWAY!!! I loved the way that he always attempted to add his own flavour and feel to each song, often adding a different combination or melody than what was used in the original, and he was praised for doing this continually, (by the judges as well as the special guests on set.) Raja just had a natural talent to make each song sound unique and original. In fact, he amazed me, by the ease, in which he sang some of the most complex and rhythmical song patterns. I was absolutely stunned by his talent! Raja's melodious and soulful singing as well as his adorable smile and sweet personality, touched everyone's hearts and as oppose to just being an Indian icon in his home country (India,) he has now won hearts, the world over!!!
During Saregamapa 2007, for the first time in years, Raja had the opportunity to go back home, to his home town of Rajasthan to visit his family. It was a very moving experience for him, he mentioned that he couldn't stay away from his father any longer! Awww. The family always appeared together in solidarity from then on, in support of their young son. The love and adulation he received upon his return to Rajasthan was unparalleled and he was given a grand reception, worthy of a TRUE KING!!!

From then on, Raja went on from strength to strength, week by week, he floored everyone with his killer personality and his powerful voice! One thing I absolutely loved about Vishal-Shekhar (Raja's Gurus) and Raja himself, is that - not once did they ever use any cheap tactics or storylines to get any publicity or votes, they just sang and stuck to being dignified and honourable! This attitude made us love them even more! Raja made all of us, (including Vishal and Shekhar-Ji,) very proud. Eventually, Raja was left as the lone singer in their 'Hit It' Gharana and he, alone, was enough to take on everyone!

Then, we all know what happened next!
Himesh for no apparent reason, along with his side-kick Ismail in tow, began to belittle Raja continually, it was so blatantly obvious that Himesh was threatened by Raja and his popularity. I have heard that apparently sometimes things got so heated on the sets, that they had to stop shooting. (So the general public never really got to see how bad things actually got!!!) But, Raja remained steadfast as a REAL valiant Raja and didn't stoop or lower his standards for anyone, he smiled sweetly, even in the face of despicable adversity, which I think consolidated his status of being a TRUE RAJA and our 'DILO KA RAJA' which I have declared him as!

After his shock loss at Saregamapa 2007 - Raja went back to his home town and got married once again, but, this time it was with the blessings of his whole family. I think that he realised that the people most important to him are priceless, and fame, fortune etc are fickle and never guaranteed, but, Raja, we ALL want you to know that WE (YOUR FANS) are very much REAL and we all love and respect you, your talent, your sincerity and humility.
